no job

S just told me he said “good-bye” to two of his chat friends, tonight, and will be saying good-bye to the rest, tomorrow… when I asked him why, he said — I don’t have a computer anymore, and in about a month, I’ll be homeless… so I figured now is the time to say good-bye.

I really don’t understand this. He is so intelligent, so knowledgable in computers. True, he doesn’t have a “formal” education in the field – when he took college classes, he ended up teaching  his  teachers… we are living in a very technological area, where jobs actually are plenty… he takes each technical test given to him, and truly impresses those who gave it to him… the only “flaw” they hold against him – not the lack of formal education, in all honesty – but his credit report. I might be able to understand that thinking, if he was applying for positions involving money or a corporate credit card, but he’s not. He’s applying for what he knows and does best – network admin and service help desk. Why can’t these various potential employers see the catch 22 here? Credit will go down, when one doesn’t have a means (job) to pay their bills, yet they seem to think one cannot perform a job, without good credit…

Things have looked bleak before, and we’ve always managed to survive somehow… this time, I don’t know… I’m scared.
